How to Avoid Rug Pulls When Buying New Tokens
26 October 2026 · 5 min read
A rug pull is when a token's creator takes the money and disappears: by printing new tokens and dumping them, freezing buyers' tokens, or pulling the liquidity out of the pool. Knowing what to check makes most of these easy to spot.
The three technical red flags
- Mint authority still active: the creator can create unlimited new tokens and sell them, crashing the price.
- Freeze authority active: the creator can freeze your tokens so you can't sell.
- Unlocked liquidity: the creator holds the LP tokens and can withdraw the pool at any time.
How OmniLaunch tokens handle these
Every OmniLaunch token is created by the platform's smart contract with the mint locked forever, no freeze authority, and a fixed 1 billion supply. When a token graduates to Raydium, the LP tokens are burned, so the liquidity is locked forever.
That removes the technical rug pulls, but not market risk: a creator or early buyer can still sell the tokens they bought, and any meme token can lose most of its value.
Checklist before you buy
- Check the token's contract details: mint and freeze authority should be disabled.
- Look at the holders: one wallet holding a huge share is a risk.
- Check the social links actually exist and have real activity, not just bots.
- Be wary of copies of famous brands or celebrities: impersonation is a classic scam.
- Never buy because someone in your DMs promises guaranteed profits.
- Only invest what you can afford to lose completely.
