How to Buy Solana (SOL) in India: A Simple 2026 Guide

27 October 2026 · 6 min read

Solana (SOL) is the coin of the Solana blockchain. You need SOL to pay network fees and to buy or launch Solana tokens. Here is the simplest way to get SOL in India and move it into your own wallet.

1. Buy SOL on an exchange with INR

  1. Pick an exchange registered with India's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU-IND), for example CoinDCX, Mudrex or Binance. Check the exchange is still registered before you sign up.
  2. Complete KYC with your PAN and Aadhaar.
  3. Deposit INR by UPI or bank transfer.
  4. Buy SOL. Start small: even ₹500 to ₹1,000 of SOL is enough to try things out.

2. Create a Phantom wallet

  1. Install Phantom from phantom.com (browser extension or the iOS/Android app).
  2. Create a new wallet and write your 12-word recovery phrase on paper. Never type it into any website or share it with anyone.
  3. Copy your Solana address from Phantom (it starts with a letter or number and is about 44 characters long).

3. Withdraw SOL to Phantom on the Solana network

  1. On the exchange, choose Withdraw → SOL.
  2. Paste your Phantom address and select the network "Solana" (sometimes shown as SOL). Choosing the wrong network can lose your funds.
  3. Send a small test amount first, wait for it to arrive in Phantom, then send the rest.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Picking the wrong network on withdrawal. Always choose Solana.
  • Copying an address from your transaction history. Scammers send tiny transactions from look-alike addresses; always copy from Phantom itself.
  • Leaving no SOL for fees. Keep about 0.01 SOL in your wallet for network fees.
  • Sharing your recovery phrase. No real support team will ever ask for it.

Tax basics in India

In India, gains from crypto are taxed at a flat 30% (plus cess), losses can't be set off against other income, and a 1% TDS applies to many crypto transfers. Rules change, so check the latest guidance or ask a tax professional. This guide is not tax advice.

What to do with your SOL

With SOL in Phantom you can trade Solana tokens or launch your own on OmniLaunchX in about 30 seconds for 0.02 SOL. See our guide on how to launch a memecoin in India for the full walkthrough.
